Eldar Dayan Murder Investigation: Suspects Hand Over Mobile Phones to Police
As part of the murder investigation that has been ongoing for about two weeks, Maxim Barberman and Omri Peretz, friends of the late Eldar Dayan, have taken a significant step they had avoided until now.

Two weeks after the arrest of Maxim Barberman and Omri Peretz, friends of the late Eldar Dayan suspected of his murder, and a week and a half after the remains of Dayan's body were located, Peretz and Barberman have in recent days handed over their mobile phones to investigators from the Sharon District Central Unit to allow them to corroborate their versions of events. As recalled, after being interrogated four times, Barberman began cooperating with investigators during his fifth interrogation. Peretz did the same on Sunday of this week during his first interrogation by the Sharon District Central Unit regarding his suspected involvement in the murder.
The two vehemently deny that they murdered their friend, claiming that they fled the scene of the brawl together with him out of fear that they had run over one of the members of the rival group. They state that from the moment they arrived at the Paz gas station at the Yarkon junction in Petah Tikva, they tried to hide the vehicle only to prevent the possibility of being located by the police while the vehicle bore signs of damage from that incident.
They further claim that after hiding in the field, where all three arrived together, they decided to return to Dimona. They tried to contact Dayan, and since he did not answer, they assumed he was still in a hiding place and would join them later. Yesterday, Barberman was interrogated for the sixth time after being brought to the offices of the Sharon District Central Unit from the detention center at the Russian Compound in Jerusalem, where he was transferred last Wednesday as part of the separation from his friend Peretz, 15 days after they were arrested and shared the same detention cell.
While Barberman led investigators in recent days to the mobile phone he had hidden among the bushes in the open field, his friend Peretz ensured yesterday that investigators reached the mobile phone that was hidden in his home.
On the advice of their attorneys, Coral Siboni, representing Barberman, and Chen Baruch, representing Peretz, the two suspects have decided to cooperate fully with the police and hand over their mobile phones to investigators to prove that they have no connection to the murder and that they have nothing to hide. The Sharon District Central Unit must now examine the mobile phones and continue to carry out investigative actions in parallel with receiving the final report from the Institute of Forensic Medicine in order to solve this strange affair in which Dayan met his death.
