Sources in the IDF claim that no authorization was granted for the transfer of the ATVs and that this is a smuggling incident currently under investigation. Furthermore, it was determined unequivocally that the ATVs did not pass through the Kerem Shalom crossing, but rather through fence gates monitored by the IDF and Military Police forces.
These developments occur against the backdrop of recent criticism regarding the conduct of the Military Police in the Gaza Division, which is stationed at several fence gates on the border. Reports suggest that the entry and exit of civilian contractors and military forces are not checked with sufficient strictness, and there is no enforcement against reckless driving along the routes.
