In the West Bank, Gaza, and Lebanon: The "1,000 Martyrs Cup" gets underway

After three years of stagnation following the October 7 massacre and the Iron Swords War, Palestinian football is once again being used as a tool for incitement and the glorification of terrorists. This coming weekend, a new football tournament will launch, aiming to exploit the sports arena for political purposes, incite passions, and support the narrative of the struggle against Israel.

The Palestinian Football Association recently introduced the tournament under the provocative name "1,000 Martyrs Cup." According to the plan, about 226 teams are expected to participate: 140 from the West Bank, 44 from the Gaza Strip, and 36 teams from Palestinian refugee camps in southern Lebanon. The first stage will take place in a regional format, with the top teams advancing to the knockout stage, though it remains unclear how inter-regional matches will be conducted in the current security reality.

The new tournament promoted by Jibril Rajoub and the message of "unity of the fronts"

By opening the tournament simultaneously in the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and southern Lebanon, the head of the association seeks to demonstrate support for the "unity of the fronts" narrative against Israel. The opening whistle scheduled for this Friday will include a match in the West Bank between Jabal Al-Mukaber and Shabab Al-Khalil from Hebron, a derby in Rafah, and a meeting in the refugee camps in Lebanon.

Jibril Rajoub stated that regular leagues will not return to full activity until the 2027/28 season, depending on security developments. While the Palestinian Authority attempts to glorify terrorists under the guise of sports, the security establishment will closely monitor attempts to create provocations on the ground.
