Eli Segev, former owner of Maccabi Netanya, passed away at the age of 73
The businessman, who led the club back to the Premier League in the 2013/14 season, passed away in South Africa as a result of medical complications following a stroke. The club eulogized: "A significant and unforgettable figure."
Mourning at Maccabi Netanya: Businessman Eli Segev, a former owner of the club, passed away today, Saturday, at the age of 73 in Johannesburg, South Africa, after suffering a stroke and experiencing medical complications. Segev headed the club in the 2013/14 season together with Yossi Maor, during a period in which he brought the yellow-blacks back from the National League to the Premier League. At the end of 2014, he decided to leave the club, and in recent years he managed his private businesses in South Africa. Last Tuesday, he was hospitalized, sedated and intubated, and today his death was pronounced. His family is currently working to bring his body for burial in Israel.
