Electra takes over transport in the south: a major deal worth tens of millions of shekels

The infrastructure giant Electra continues to expand its transport empire, focusing its efforts on the southern part of the country. Through its subsidiary Electra Apikim, Electra is purchasing 51% of the Be’er Sheva bus company “Matai Leyv”. The deal, estimated at tens of millions of shekels, reflects a valuation of approximately NIS 100 million for the southern company.

The company’s founders, members of the Nasasara family, will continue to hold the remaining 49% of shares, while Electra retains the option to purchase them in full in the future, according to a report in Calcalist. The current deal is part of a targeted expansion strategy that began in 2021. Electra entered the field significantly when it acquired “Apikim” and “Egged Tefura”, and about two years ago, it also added the bus company “Merkava” from Petah Tikva to its portfolio.

Today, Electra Apikim’s transport activity has become a central anchor in the Israeli market. The company operates about 280 public transportation lines using 1,250 buses. In addition, it won the major tender for the establishment and operation of the light rail line that will connect Haifa and Nazareth.

The bus transportation sector, which falls under Electra’s operations, service, and maintenance segment, is proving especially profitable. Although it is the second-largest segment in the company (with revenues of NIS 876 million in the first quarter of 2026, constituting 23% of total revenues), it is Electra’s most profitable segment, with an operating profitability of 8%.

This enormous potential was recently validated by investors: the Tash”i fund entered as a partner (33%) in Electra Apikim for NIS 250 million—a move that reflects an impressive valuation of NIS 750 million for the transportation company and positions Electra as a leading bus-transport powerhouse in Israel.

The company “Matai Leyv” is considered a key player on the roads of the south, with its headquarters in Be’er Sheva, operating more than 200 buses, minibuses, and vans, with an estimated annual sales turnover of about NIS 100 million.
