Haifa Resident Severely Injured in Eilat Dog Attack, Undergoes Emergency Surgery
A 70-year-old Haifa resident vacationing in Eilat was severely injured after being attacked by a large unleashed dog, resulting in a complex arm fracture and emergency surgery at Yoseftal Medical Center.
A 70-year-old resident of Haifa named Gadi suffered severe injuries after being attacked by a large dog outside a hotel in Eilat. The incident occurred when the dog suddenly leaped at him, knocking him violently to the pavement. As a result of the fall, Gadi sustained a complex fracture in his arm and was rushed to the emergency department at the Yoseftal Medical Center.
Emergency Surgery and Medical Treatment
"We came to Eilat for a vacation, and in a split second, I found myself lying on the ground with excruciating pain in my hand," Gadi recalled of the moments leading up to the injury.
At the hospital, Gadi underwent a series of examinations, following which medical staff decided to perform emergency surgery to fix the fracture in his arm.
Dr. Sergei Boykov, head of the orthopedic department at Yoseftal Medical Center, explained the patient's medical condition. The patient arrived after a direct injury and a fall caused by a dog attack, suffering from a complex fracture and severe pain. Boykov added that the medical team performed an internal fixation surgery to ensure proper bone healing and prevent future functional damage to the arm. According to the doctor, the surgery was successful, and Gadi was discharged to continue his medical care and follow-up in his hometown in the north.
Warning Against Stray Dogs
Beyond the medical treatment, Gadi praised the warmth and professionalism of the hospital staff, noting that he felt he was in the best possible hands from the moment he arrived.
However, Gadi is now raising concerns about the dangers posed by unleashed dogs wandering without supervision. During his stay at the hospital, he reportedly heard of another incident where a young girl narrowly escaped a large dog and was almost struck by a vehicle. His family members, who arrived in the city following the incident, reported seeing a similar large white dog roaming freely in the area.
"I contacted the municipal hotline to demand urgent action," Gadi said. "Today it hurt me, and tomorrow it could end in a major disaster for a child or an elderly person. We must enforce the regulations and keep stray dogs off the streets." Yoseftal Medical Center emphasized that its orthopedic division and operating rooms remain fully equipped to handle trauma and fracture cases for both local residents and the numerous vacationers visiting Eilat.
