Drugs in Canned Goods: Smuggling into Gaza via Humanitarian Aid
Drugs were concealed in packages of canned peppers arriving in the Gaza Strip as part of humanitarian aid shipments and were discovered in World Central Kitchen facilities. COGAT condemned the smuggling, stating that the incident highlights Hamas's exploitation of aid mechanisms.
The Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) reported today, Monday, on a serious case of drug smuggling into the Gaza Strip hidden within food products intended for humanitarian aid.
The report follows findings by the World Central Kitchen (WCK) organization, which discovered drugs concealed inside packages of canned peppers during the unloading of aid shipments and food preparation at its kitchens in the Gaza Strip. Six packages of hashish, weighing approximately 600 grams in total, were found alongside 160 grams of other prohibited substances.
COGAT strongly condemns this smuggling attempt. The incident illustrates once again that Hamas stops at nothing to exploit humanitarian aid for its own needs. COGAT stated it will continue to work with all relevant parties to prevent any further abuse of humanitarian aid mechanisms.
