Drama in the tennis world: Nick Kyrgios suspended after positive cocaine test
The Australian tennis player (31) was tested during the Mallorca tournament and tested positive for cocaine. Following the findings, he has been suspended from all tour activities. Kyrgios chose not to appeal and admitted: "I made a huge mistake, I take full responsibility."
Nick Kyrgios has been provisionally suspended from world tennis activities after testing positive for cocaine in a drug test. The Australian tennis player provided the sample during the Mallorca tournament on June 22, and the test later confirmed the findings. Consequently, Kyrgios (a former world number 13) has been effectively suspended since August 4.
The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) stated that Kyrgios had the right to appeal the provisional suspension, but he "chose not to do so thus far." In a post published on his Instagram account, the tennis player took responsibility for the act, wrote that he made a "huge mistake," and added that he "bears full responsibility."
Under the terms of the suspension, the 31-year-old Kyrgios is prohibited from participating in, coaching, or even attending Grand Slam tournaments and any other official event organized by the men's and women's tours (ATP and WTA). As a reminder, the Australian recorded only four singles matches this season after dealing with prolonged knee and wrist injuries in recent years. His last appearance was at the Wimbledon doubles tournament, where he was eliminated in the first round along with his partner Alexander Bublik.
