Dolly Parton is considering the possibility of future performances using avatars — holograms that would perform in her place. The 80-year-old country star shared this news in an interview with People magazine.
Parton noted that she and her team are working with companies that develop avatar technology, though she clarified that the project is still in its early stages and did not provide specific details about the digital characters being considered.
The idea comes against the backdrop of health challenges she has faced in recent months, which led her to explore new ways to perform for her fans. Parton worried many when she postponed her Las Vegas residency from May 2025 to September 2026, eventually cancelling the dates entirely. Concerns were further heightened after her sister posted a request for fans to "pray for my sister Dolly."
However, the singer recently reassured her audience:
"I know that lately everyone thinks I am sicker than I really am. Do I look sick to you? I am working hard here."
The last few years have been difficult for Parton, particularly following the loss of her husband, Carl Dean, last year. The couple was married for 58 years until his death, and the country star has spoken openly about how the grief impacted her well-being:
"I just got a little worn out and tired, from grieving for Carl and many other little things that happened. I reached a point where I needed to rebuild myself — spiritually, emotionally, and physically. But everything is good. It did not slow me down."
