In front of 18 million viewers: The bride's embarrassing mistake during her wedding ceremony
A bride mistook a priest's liturgical stole for a tissue to wipe away her tears of joy. The video of this awkward moment has gone viral, garnering over 18 million views.
Bride Lauren Bruce became an internet sensation after more than 18 million people watched an awkward moment from her wedding. Her 21 seconds of fame began when the priest officiating the ceremony reached out, and the groom held what she believed to be a tissue.
Lauren, who was crying with joy during the most moving moment of her life, assumed the gesture was a kind offer to help her wipe her eyes. The priest calmly allowed her to dab her eyes and even blow her nose, only for her to quickly realize the true purpose of the cloth. "Thank you, Father," she is heard saying in the video.
"Please enjoy this video of me thinking the priest was handing me a tissue, but he was actually putting his holy cloth on our hands to bless us. @brogan.graham4, thank you for capturing this."
She posted the video with the caption: "Please enjoy this video of me thinking our priest is handing me a tissue, but he is actually putting his holy cloth on our hands to bless us." She added: "The priest was too stunned to speak." The video ends with Lauren looking around at the crowd, unable to stop laughing at her mistake.
TikTok users were quick to comment. One wrote: "Please, please, please tell me the priest laughed." Another joked: "I am so embarrassed and it's not even me." A third added: "The fact that you realized it makes it 10 times better. I'm not religious at all and I would have thought the same thing."
The cloth in the video is a stole, a colored liturgical strip of fabric worn by priests. In Catholic weddings, it is wrapped around the couple's hands to symbolize their inseparable union and God's blessing on their marriage vows.
