Two seriously wounded by explosion of unexploded ordnance near Metula, reports of unusual attack in Syria
Six Thai workers were wounded by the explosion of an old unexploded ordnance in a nectarine orchard near Metula, two are in serious condition. Reports of attacks in the Idlib area of Syria, the IDF refused to comment.
An unusual incident on the northern border and reports of an exceptional attack in Syria: six foreign workers from Thailand were wounded this morning (Tuesday) by the explosion of an old unexploded ordnance in an open area near Metula. Two of them are in serious condition.
Police forces arrived at the scene and sappers are on their way. The police have asked the public not to touch fragments or interception parts that might be found in the area, and in case of identifying a suspicious object, to report it to the 100 hotline.
The report on the incident was received at the Magen David Adom (MDA) Jordan district dispatch center at 06:52 in the morning. Senior medic Moti Barel said:
"We received a report of several men wounded by an explosion in an orchard near Metula. We arrived at the scene and saw the wounded, they were conscious and suffering from injuries. We began initial triage and medical treatment on the spot, which included stopping bleeding and administering medication. In cooperation with an IDF medical force, we evacuated the wounded by helicopter and MDA ambulances to the hospital while continuing medical treatment."
The Metula Council stated:
"The incident this morning occurred in the nectarine orchards near Metula. According to the details known at this time, it involves an old unexploded ordnance that was not located or neutralized. Five wounded were evacuated from the scene to hospitals, two of them in serious condition. There is no fear of a security incident, and routine in the town continues."
At the same time, according to Arab reports, four airstrikes were carried out overnight against the Abu al-Duhur military airport in the eastern countryside of Idlib, Syria. According to the "Sabrin" news agency, the runway at the airport was attacked. It is claimed that these were Israeli strikes—the first after a long period without IDF strikes in Syria. The IDF refused to comment on those reports.
In addition, reports were received in Lebanon of strikes in the villages of Al-Mansouri and Deir Sirian in the south of the country. This morning, an interceptor was also launched from the Western Galilee, apparently towards a false target.
