Jessica Sags, a talented screenwriter and producer for the hit Netflix series "My Life with the Walter Boys", has passed away at the age of 32. Her family confirmed that Sags died on August 18 at her home in Studio City, California, following an eight-year battle with breast cancer.
Sags was diagnosed with the disease at age 24. According to her sister, Liz, it was discovered about two years later that the cancer had spread. Throughout the years, she underwent numerous treatments while remaining dedicated to her work in the television industry.
"Throughout the journey, she came to work every day, determined not to let cancer define her," her sister said.
She noted that Sags faced her treatments with courage, maintaining a smile and deep appreciation for the medical teams who cared for her.
Sags was a vital part of the writing and producing team for "My Life with the Walter Boys", which premiered on Netflix in 2023. She served as a story editor for the first season and as a co-producer for the second and third seasons. Before her passing, she was already engaged in writing the fourth season.
Beyond her work on the series, Sags contributed to other television projects, including "Parenthood", "As We See It", and "It's Not Like That". In 2018, while undergoing chemotherapy, Sags shared her journey on social media, highlighting the support she received from family and friends.
Her sister Liz paid tribute to her, stating that her life "will continue to bear fruit in the stories that every writer she touched will tell," adding that, in a way, she will continue to write for a long time to come.
Sags is survived by her husband, actor Dustin Ingram, her mother Roxanne, two sisters, a brother, and her nieces and nephew. Her father, Jim Sags, preceded her in death. A memorial service was held in Los Angeles, with another ceremony scheduled for August 29 in Grapevine, Texas.
