Right-wing activists return fire after stone-throwing attack: one Palestinian killed
A group of right-wing activists on an uncoordinated hike was attacked with stones. A shooting incident ensued, resulting in the death of one Palestinian, according to reports.
A friction incident between right-wing activists and Palestinians occurred in the West Bank today (Friday), resulting in the death of one Palestinian and injuries to several Israelis and Palestinians. The IDF, police, and Shin Bet are investigating the violent event in the village of Sa'ir.
According to military sources, a group of Israelis was on an uncoordinated hike when they entered the outskirts of the village of Sa'ir and were targeted by stone-throwers. The army stated: "It is confirmed that several people were injured by the stone-throwing."
The IDF further reported:
"A security official who arrived in the area fired, several Palestinians were wounded by the fire, and one was killed."
Palestinian sources claim that one of the right-wing activists initiated the shooting. Subsequently, a fire broke out in a residential house in the village. IDF forces arrived at the scene to disperse the participants without making any arrests. The IDF confirmed that a police investigation has been opened.
Earlier in the morning, activists reportedly set fire to engineering equipment in Wadi Rahim and sprayed graffiti on a building reading "Mutual Responsibility." IDF forces called to the scene were unable to apprehend the perpetrators, who fled. Police and Shin Bet investigators are expected to arrive shortly.
According to Palestinian reports, "settlers from the Susiya outposts attacked near Wadi Rahim, set fire to heavy equipment, and sprayed graffiti."
As a reminder, clashes broke out a week and a half ago between IDF and police forces and right-wing activists in the village of Qusra, near Ramallah, during an operation to evacuate tents set up by activists who claimed they were establishing a new outpost.
