"Teachers identified as terror supporters, but details shredded by order of Attorney General"

Knesset member Amit Halevi of the Likud party described in an interview on Gadi Taub's podcast how a security check revealed dozens of teachers appearing in Shin Bet systems with indications of support for terrorism. According to him, the information regarding these individuals was destroyed by order of the Attorney General, Gali Baharav-Miara.

MK Halevi stated that the Shin Bet identified dozens of terror-supporting suspects working as teachers, but shredded their details following instructions from the Attorney General to avoid infringing on their privacy.

During the interview, Halevi detailed the move he initiated with the security establishment:

"I said take all the ID cards of the teachers, which is over 200,000, take the files in the Shin Bet, do a matching, only for ID numbers, and see who pops up."

According to Halevi, the Attorney General initially opposed the move, citing the Privacy Protection Law, but eventually acceded to the request, allowing the check to proceed.

The cross-referencing between Ministry of Education records and Shin Bet databases revealed disturbing findings. Halevi emphasized the severity of the matter:

"Dozens of teachers popped up. Dozens. They popped up with an indication in the Shin Bet. It is a ticking bomb. It is the infrastructure, and we are neglecting the infrastructure because we are not identifying the enemy correctly."

When Halevi asked how the Shin Bet acted against the identified teachers, the representative clarified that the information was destroyed according to instructions:

"He says Baharav-Miara gave us permission to do this check, on the condition that we shred it afterwards."

The Knesset member expressed shock at the response:

"I said, you shredded it? He says, I shredded it. I said, you know there are fifty supporters of terrorism, who are nurturing terrorists in the State of Israel, and you shredded it? What is this thing?"
