Children used as camouflage: Attempt to smuggle illegal residents thwarted
Border Police fighters at the Ofer checkpoint thwarted an attempt to smuggle two illegal residents hidden in the trunk of a family car, using the driver's wife and children as a cover.
Fighters of the Border Police (Magav) 'Otef Yerushalayim' and checkpoint personnel thwarted an unusual attempt to smuggle two illegal residents from Judea and Samaria, who were hidden in the trunk of a family vehicle, on Wednesday night. The operation took place at the Ofer checkpoint following precise intelligence received by the Investigations and Intelligence Division of the Magav 'Otef Yerushalayim', which identified a suspicious vehicle heading toward the checkpoint with the goal of infiltrating Israeli territory.
Upon the vehicle's arrival at the Ofer checkpoint, security forces prepared to stop it and conducted a thorough inspection. Inside the vehicle were the driver, his wife, and their three small children. According to investigators, the family was used as a cruel and well-planned camouflage to create the impression of an innocent family trip and evade the scrutiny of the checkpoint guards. During the search, the fighters discovered the two illegal residents tightly hidden behind the seats and in the trunk.
The driver, a resident of East Jerusalem in his 40s, was immediately arrested along with the two illegal residents. All three were transferred to the Border Police for intensive investigation and prosecution. Magav officials emphasized that their forces will continue to act with determination, utilizing all available operational and intelligence resources to block illegal infiltration attempts and maintain the security of Israeli citizens.
