Two weeks before the start of the new Serie A season, a friendly Derby d'Italia was held in Perth, Australia, where Inter beat Juventus 2:1. Still without captain Lautaro Martinez and his attacking partner Marcus Thuram, the champions were superior to their rivals and found the net once in each half. Federico Dimarco scored in the 20th minute following an assist from Ange-Yoan Bonny, and substitute Andy Diouf needed just four minutes on the pitch to score the second goal in the 62nd minute.

New goalkeeper Ivan Provedel, signed from Lazio, kept a clean sheet for the Nerazzurri, while his substitute Josep Martinez conceded in the 85th minute to a goal from Portuguese player Francisco Conceição. 18-year-old defender Leonardo Bobbio had a solid debut in the center of Inter's defense, becoming the only player to receive a full 90 minutes from Cristian Chivu. Brazilian Luis Henrique started on the right wing, in a position intended for Anan Khalaili, and was substituted in the final minute.

Juventus looked more dangerous after the introduction of Teun Koopmeiners, Randal Kolo Muani, and Conceição, with the latter reducing the deficit late in the game from a Fabio Miretti assist. 18-year-old Bosnian Karim Alajbegovic, purchased for 32 million euros from Bayer Leverkusen, missed a chance to equalize in the 88th minute.

Inter will host newly promoted Monza in the opening round in exactly two weeks, while Juventus will visit Frosinone the following day, who also returned from Serie B.
