Aiming to control Gaza: The hospital that became a Hamas torture complex

The IDF revealed today (Thursday) intelligence information according to which the Hamas terrorist organization operates interrogation and torture complexes inside the Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, as part of its security apparatus activities against the residents of the Gaza Strip. According to the security establishment, the activity is expanding against the backdrop of Hamas's fear of eroding support and losing its grip on the population.

According to the revealed information, in the "Yassin" building within the hospital complex, on the second floor in the outpatient clinic area, interrogations are conducted by personnel of the internal security and military intelligence of the terrorist organization. The IDF claims that the organization also uses the complex for governance needs unrelated to its medical activity, including interrogations, torture, and the collection of funds.

It was further reported that the Nasser Hospital continues to serve, according to the security establishment, as a central infrastructure for Hamas in the southern Gaza Strip. Patients and staff at the site are exposed, according to the information, to the constant presence of the organization's operatives in various areas of the hospital, some of whom are masked.

The security establishment notes that one of the interrogation centers operates in a building that changed its purpose over the years: initially it served as hospital offices, then as a cafeteria, and subsequently as a prayer house. Today, according to the intelligence information, it is used by Hamas for the purpose of interrogations.

The IDF claims that the use Hamas makes of the hospital complex creates an atmosphere of fear and harms patients and medical teams, and that this is part of a wider phenomenon of exploiting civilian infrastructure in the Strip for the organization's needs. They further added that military use of hospitals and medical facilities is contrary to international law, and warned that Hamas also uses schools and other civilian facilities against the backdrop of the fear of losing its control in the Strip.

According to the security establishment, the information revealed points, according to them, to an attempt by Hamas to increase pressure on the population in the Strip through mechanisms of intimidation, interrogation, and punishment, against the backdrop of signs of erosion in its status among the residents.
