In the 'Muslim capital' of the USA: Outrage over film screening about October 7 massacre
The Arab American National Museum in Dearborn, supported by hundreds of thousands of dollars in US taxpayer money, will host a screening of a film that presents the Hamas attack as a 'struggle for liberation from colonialism'. The event is scheduled just one day before the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
In the city of Dearborn, Michigan, often called the capital of the Arab-Muslim population in the United States, a storm is brewing. At the center of the controversy is the Arab American National Museum (AANM), which announced it will screen a documentary film that legitimizes the murderous terrorist attack by Hamas on October 7, according to a report by Fox News.
The film, titled 'Seeds for Liberation', is scheduled for screening on September 10. According to a Fox News investigation, the work does not describe the events of 'Black Saturday' as a terrorist attack in which innocent civilians were massacred, raped, and kidnapped. Instead, it frames these actions as part of a decades-long Palestinian struggle, placing them within the broad context of anti-imperialist movements and liberation from colonialism.
The choice to screen the film specifically on September 10, the eve of the 9/11 memorial day, has sparked significant outrage among conservative circles and lawmakers in the USA. Dearborn, where more than half of the residents are of Middle Eastern or North African descent, has become a focal point of deep political and ideological tension regarding US foreign policy, Israel, and Islamic terrorism.
According to an extensive report by Fox News, this screening is not an isolated case but part of a broader ideological line promoted by the museum. A tour conducted by the network at the site revealed permanent exhibitions dedicated to sharp, one-sided, and blatant criticism of the State of Israel. Among the displays are works of art accusing Israel of maintaining an apartheid regime, illegal occupation, and intentional harm to Palestinian civilians.
One prominent exhibit relies on data from the organization DCI-P (Defense for Children International – Palestine), a body that Israel has officially declared a terrorist organization due to its ties to the Popular Front. Another sign in the museum quoted an extremist pro-Palestinian website that had previously published articles denying the definition of Hamas as a terrorist organization and had been condemned even by left-wing organizations for manifestations of antisemitism and ties to white supremacist groups.
The museum shop sells propaganda merchandise for the whole family: maps and keychains of 'Palestine' that completely erase Israel, alongside coloring books for children that promote the Palestinian narrative.
What is agitating the political system in Washington most is the fact that the museum operates under the institutional and financial sponsorship of the federal government. The museum enjoys an official partnership with the Smithsonian Institution — the national network of museums in the USA — and, according to Fox News, has received hundreds of thousands of dollars in federal grants over the years.
