The deal for Daniel Theis to join Maccabi Tel Aviv is on the verge of completion. The 'Yellows' reached financial understandings today (Sunday) with the center on a two-year contract, and they are now awaiting the player's release from the French club ASVEL. Theis is expected to earn about $4.5 million over two years.

Maccabi hopes to receive a positive answer from ASVEL soon, as the French team is interested in offloading as many assets as possible. After Sylvain Francisco, who was released to Panathinaikos, Theis is expected to be released to Maccabi, Nick Weiler-Babb to Dubai, and Armoni Brooks is also expected to leave.

Theis (34, 2.03m) returned to Europe a year and a half ago after seven years in the NBA, where he became one of the best European centers. In the last year and a half, he played for Monaco, where last year he recorded 9.7 points and 5 rebounds on average per game. In the best league in the world, he played a total of 411 games and recorded 7.1 points and 4.7 rebounds. His best season was 2019/20, when he recorded 9.2 points and 6.6 rebounds per game for Boston.

Maccabi is expected to announce soon the signing of American center Armando Bacot, who will bolster the team's interior game.

At the same time, the club estimates that T.J. Leaf and Gur Lavi will not be fit for the start of training in a few weeks. The hope is that by the start of the season at least one of them will be able to return to activity, but both are continuing rehabilitation from the injuries they sustained at the end of last season.
