A heavy blow for Maccabi Haifa: Manuel Benson suffers a torn ACL and meniscus
The midfielder, who was injured in the Toto Cup match against Hapoel Jerusalem, underwent an MRI scan, which revealed that he is suffering from a severe injury that will cause him to be absent from the pitches for a long time.
Four days before its first match in the Premier League, Maccabi Haifa received bad news. Manuel Benson, who was injured during yesterday's (Monday) match against Hapoel Jerusalem, was diagnosed with a torn ACL and meniscus, and he is expected to be absent from the pitches for a long period.
In an official statement from Maccabi Haifa, it was stated:
"Benson will begin the treatment and rehabilitation process in the coming period in accordance with the instructions of the medical staff. The club wishes Benson a speedy and full recovery and will stand by his side throughout the entire rehabilitation process."
Benson came off the bench in the 80th minute for Maccabi Haifa against Hapoel Jerusalem in the Toto Cup ranking matches (0:1 for Jerusalem, which finished in ninth place). The midfielder injured his knee within a few minutes and was forced to leave the pitch, assisted by the medical staff, which raised concerns among the club's staff that it was a serious injury. The MRI scan he underwent today confirmed this fear.
The 29-year-old winger joined Maccabi Haifa during last season, in the January transfer window. In 18 appearances in all competitions for the Greens, he scored one goal and provided three assists.
