Chef Narkis Alfi and her partner Shelly Garber have opened Cotta, a vibrant new pizzeria located at 44 Geula Street in Tel Aviv, situated just across the street from their existing restaurant, Baina. The venue occupies a triangular 105-square-meter space that previously housed a historic stamp shop, a warehouse, and the former Schroitman bakery. According to Garber, the name 'Cotta' is derived from Italian, meaning baked, perfectly capturing the spirit of the new establishment.

The unique triangular layout presented significant architectural challenges, requiring creative spatial solutions. During a preliminary concept tour in Barcelona, the founders discovered innovative cardboard stools at the Parking Pizza chain. After extensive efforts to track down the Dutch manufacturer and arrange independent shipping during wartime, these practical and stylish stools—featuring built-in storage compartments—have become a signature element of Cotta's interior design.

Industrial Aesthetics and Open Kitchen

The interior embraces a minimalist, monochromatic palette featuring exposed raw materials such as wood, stainless steel, and polished concrete. Custom oak tables and a sleek stainless steel bar connect directly to the open kitchen, where pizza dough is prepared in full view of the diners. The renovation, costing approximately 3 million shekels, also uncovered the building's original arched high ceilings, adding historic charm to the modern industrial design.

Culinary Offerings and Atmosphere

Cotta's menu features pizzas made from dough fermented for 48 hours, offering both classics and creative toppings like citrus ricotta with za'atar and Ortiz anchovies with green chili. The culinary lineup is complemented by seasonal Mediterranean sharing plates, Italian and Israeli wines, and classic cocktails. With transparent outdoor seating and an 80-seat capacity, Cotta delivers a refined yet accessible neighborhood dining experience.
