Following a record-breaking first quarter, food chains in Israel experienced a slowdown in the second quarter of 2026. The primary reason for the decline is the timing of the Passover holiday, with purchases recorded in the previous quarter, alongside a comparison to the start of the war period last year when sales surged. Despite this temporary weakness, analysts remain optimistic, estimating that company stocks could see price increases in the range of 24 to 37 percent.

Financial data highlights the performance gaps between chains. Tiv Taam stood out as the only chain that managed to increase sales in existing branches by 0.9 percent, recording a net profit of 25.4 million shekels. Conversely, Rami Levy and Yohananof recorded a slight decline in sales at older branches but managed to grow total revenue through the opening of new locations. Rami Levy reported revenues of 2.06 billion shekels, while Yohananof reached 1.32 billion shekels.

At the other end of the spectrum are Shufersal and Victory. Shufersal reported a sharp 8.5 percent decline in sales at identical branches and a drop in revenue to 3.41 billion shekels, partly due to the closure of loss-making branches. Despite the industry-wide sales decline, a positive indicator is that a significant portion of these chains managed to improve profit margins on their products.

Analysts recommend focusing on annual trends rather than reacting to a single weak quarter. They are currently waiting to see how purchases for the Tishrei holidays will balance the decline in consumption during the summer months, driven by increased travel abroad.
