Chiney on the events in Qusra: "A small group manages to disgrace an entire country"
Major General (res.) Eliezer Marom harshly criticized the rioters in Qusra and called for the handling of the matter to be transferred to the police. At the same time, he dismissed the fear of Hamas's strengthening and claimed: "There is no danger of another October 7th here at the moment."
The IDF has deployed an additional battalion in the village of Qusra in order to prevent escalation following the serious incidents that took place there. Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir announced that the IDF will act to restore order and bring the rioters to justice. Against the backdrop of the events, which are also taking on an international dimension, Major General (res.) Eliezer Marom (Chiney), former commander of the Navy, addressed the situation in a conversation with Ron Koffman and Prof. Aryeh Eldad on 103fm.
"From what I know, what is happening in Qusra is simply a shocking event in my eyes. A small group of people manages to disgrace an entire country: first of all all the settlers in Judea and Samaria, but also everything that revolves around this matter. In my view, there is a significant settlement enterprise in Judea and Samaria that has developed a great deal in recent years, and a small group of people is doing what is forbidden to do - to act against the law."
According to him, "The Border Police (Magav) is the police, and they need to handle this incident. IDF soldiers who arrive by virtue of the mandatory conscription law are our children, they do not know how to conduct themselves as police officers. They came to fight against external enemies. I say that the Israel Police should handle this incident exactly as it handles Haredi demonstrations in Bnei Brak."
Marom also noted that one of the residents of Qusra who was harmed is an American citizen, a fact that adds a dimension to the event that also concerns Washington: "He is an American citizen whose family members live there, and look what has become of it."

Later, Marom addressed a series of recent reports on the rehabilitation of Hamas, and claims that the situation is returning to be close to that which prevailed on the eve of October 7th and that the Gazan terrorist organization is once again endangering the residents of the Gaza envelope. Marom rejected this assessment.
"You can create monsters here, but there is no October 7th here. There is an IDF here that sits on the yellow line - the IDF is located in front of the communities, and there is a very significant perimeter here of several good kilometers. There is no danger of another October 7th here at the moment. No danger, in my opinion."
