European Swimming Championships: Anastasia Gorbenko finished seventh in the 400m individual medley
The Israeli European champion returned to the demanding event and finished the final with a time of 4:45.07 minutes. Daria Golovaty finished 14th in the 200m freestyle semifinals, but secured a spot in the 2027 World Championships.
Anastasia Gorbenko (Maccabi Kiryat Bialik) finished seventh this evening, Wednesday, in the 400-meter individual medley final at the European Swimming Championships, clocking a time of 4:45.07 minutes. The result was slower than the one she recorded in the morning preliminaries (4:42.23 minutes), which would not have changed her final standing in the final heat. Gorbenko, who arrived at the competition as the defending European champion in the event, was unable to retain her title. As recalled, since the previous European Championships, she had taken a break from this demanding event to focus on other races, and this evening marked her first return to competing in the 400-meter individual medley.
Earlier, Daria Golovaty (Hapoel Bat Yam) finished 14th in the 200-meter freestyle semifinals with a time of 1:58.45 minutes. Although the result was not enough to qualify for the final, it earned her an official qualifying standard for the 2027 World Championships. This is the fourth qualifying standard achieved by the Israeli team at the current championship, following Aviv Barzelay and Tom Minis (in the 200m backstroke) and Denis Loktev (in the 200m freestyle as part of the relay final).
