"It can be insulting": Anna Aronov addresses the comment she received about her background
After receiving a comment from a follower regarding her Soviet origins, Anna Aronov addressed the issue in a story, noting that it is a phenomenon she encounters quite often: "There are Soviet roots in me, but I have also changed a lot."
Anna Aronov has never hidden the story of her immigration to Israel, having arrived with her family from the former Soviet Union. 26 years have passed, and she has become one of the most prominent figures in the Israeli dance world, as well as a judge on "Dancing with the Stars" (live broadcasts begin tonight on Keshet 12). Despite her long tenure in Israel, Aronov continues to receive comments about her Soviet origins — and today (Wednesday) she chose to respond to one of them in her story.
"Yesterday someone wrote to me that next to the word 'Soviet' one should put my picture," the dancer shared. "I was not offended. There is a crazy and unique phenomenon here, because I don't think there is any other regime whose definition has been packed with so many character traits, which can be interpreted for better or for worse. On one hand, they mean self-discipline, excellence, and manners, but there is also a less positive interpretation — emotional coldness, lack of mental flexibility, rigidity, and criticality."
Aronov also addressed her personal story:
"It is clear to me that I am Soviet, there is a Soviet root in me because I was born in such a country, and my parents educated and raised me that way. However, I have changed a lot; I have 26 years of experience in a completely different mentality. I do think I have kept a lot of positive things from this 'Sovietness' that everyone talks about. I usually choose to take it to a positive place, but sometimes it can also be insulting."
