Because of a glass of water: 17-year-old stabbed his cellmate
A 17-year-old appeared in court for a different matter, was released home - and then it was discovered that he had stabbed his cellmate in the face and neck with a ceramic shard. He is charged with assault under aggravating circumstances.
Because of a queue for a glass of water: A 17-year-old who was in a holding cell at the courthouse is accused of taking a ceramic shard, attacking another teenager who was in the cell with him, and cutting him all over his body. Ironically, the suspect appeared in court for a different matter and was released home - and only after a few hours was the act discovered and he was arrested again. He is charged with assault under aggravating circumstances.
"On August 11, we received a report from MADA about a stabbing victim at the courthouse complex in Nof HaGalil," described Sergeant Major Ben Chen, head of the youth unit in the Amakim district. "We sent a team of patrol officers to the court who met with personnel from the Israel Prison Service's Nachshon unit, who are responsible for the complex. We met the victim and took an initial statement from him, and subsequently he was evacuated to the hospital for treatment and stitches."
Chen added that during the investigation, the attacking teenager admitted that "he was detained in the same cell with the victim, who was handcuffed before a court hearing regarding his case. A dispute developed between the two over who would get water first." According to Chen, the suspect went to the corner, took a piece of ceramic, and attacked his cellmate and stabbed him.
"The attack could have ended in murder," Chen continued. "The suspect stabbed at the head while also aiming for the neck, and then the victim teenager defended himself and put his hands on his neck and head, so the suspect stabbed him in the stomach and ribs. It took the fighters time until they managed to overpower him. Currently, we are requesting detention until the end of proceedings. This is a very dangerous teenager, and it is appropriate to keep him behind bars."
Attorney Wassim Daher, Deputy District Public Defender in the North, who is responsible for representing the minor, added in response: "According to the minor, he acted out of fear and self-defense. The indictment was filed today and we will respond in court; we will request to release him under conditions."
