How to Stop Hidden Monthly Charges and Cancel Forgotten Google Play Subscriptions
Discover how to locate and cancel forgotten monthly premium subscriptions on Android devices through Google Play to stop unnecessary recurring credit card charges.

Finding an unfamiliar charge on your bank statement or credit card bill is a common frustration. While many immediately suspect credit card fraud or security breaches, the reality on the ground is much simpler: these are forgotten premium subscriptions activated in various apps that continue to bill you automatically month after month.
As recently demonstrated by the technology channel ANDROID MAN, many Android users sign up for premium services on social networks or content apps, forget about them, and remain unaware that Google's automated billing system is still running in the background. The following guide outlines practical steps to locate active subscriptions, cancel them quickly, and stop the financial leakage.
Step 1: Locating Active Subscriptions in Google Play
To check which apps and services are regularly charging your account, you need to access the dedicated management section in the app store.
-
Open the app store: Launch the Google Play Store app on your Android device.
-
Go to the account menu: Tap on your profile icon in the upper right corner of the screen.
-
Enter the payments area: Click on the Payments & subscriptions option.
-
Scan active subscriptions: Tap on Subscriptions. This screen will display all active subscriptions registered to the account (such as YouTube Premium, Telegram Premium, or other apps). If the screen is empty, no charges are being made to this ID.
Step 2: Canceling Unused Subscriptions
If you have identified an active subscription that you no longer need, follow a short cancellation process to stop the next billing cycle.
-
Select the service: Click on the service or app you wish to cancel from the list of active subscriptions.
-
Click cancel: At the bottom of the opened screen, tap on Cancel subscription.
-
State the reason: The system will ask you to rate or state the reason for cancellation—if you prefer not to elaborate, you can choose Other and click Continue.
-
Final confirmation: Tap Cancel subscription again to confirm the action. Once completed, the monthly billing will stop immediately.
Step 3: Checking Additional Google Accounts on the Device
A major vulnerability that many tend to overlook is the multiplicity of Google accounts configured on the same mobile device. A paid subscription may be linked to a secondary account rather than the primary one.
-
Open the main menu: Return to the main Google Play Store screen and tap on the profile picture in the upper corner again.
-
Display connected accounts: Click on the small arrow next to the account name to open the list of all Google accounts connected to the device.
-
Scan all accounts: Go through the different accounts one by one, enter the Payments & subscriptions menu for each, tap on Subscriptions, and verify that no unnecessary premium charges are configured there.
