Britney Spears published a long post yesterday on X, expressing her feelings of failure as a mother and criticizing her parents, Jamie and Lynne Spears, for allegedly spending time with her two sons behind her back.

Spears wrote that these issues resurfaced after one of her sons told her last week that he does not believe in God, but only in science.

'At that moment I believed I had failed as a mother, because I know there is a Holy Spirit that sits high in the Kingdom of Heaven,' wrote Spears.

Later, she addressed her children and the public: 'I want to tell my children and people in general that I am sorry for my mistakes in the past.' Spears attached an old photo of her two sons, 20-year-old Sean and 19-year-old Jayden, running on the beach as toddlers. According to her, five years ago she discovered they were being secretly taken to the beach by her father, from whom she is currently estranged, and her mother—without her knowledge or consent.

Spears divorced the boys' father, Kevin Federline, in November 2006, just eight weeks after the birth of their second son. Reflecting on that time, she wrote:

'I look back now and remember that my father wouldn't let me go to a diner to eat a hamburger with a new, insanely cool friend I found, because all the attention I got from the paparazzi after being held in my house for four months bothered him. The pictures I saw of my mom and dad secretly on the beach all summer with my kids every weekend. I wondered why I wasn't part of their secret and cool outings.'

Spears added that she felt humiliated by the very thought that such behavior was allowed: 'I felt humiliated to live in a country where it is acceptable for people like my mom and dad to live a secret life with my children. It was humiliating. I really got down on my knees and cried for two months.'
