Pop icon Britney Spears has sold the rights to her entire music catalog to publisher Primary Wave in a blockbuster deal valued at approximately $200 million, as reported by international media.

The landmark agreement encompasses the singer's complete musical repertoire spanning her decades-long career. It includes the era-defining pop anthems of the late 1990s and early 2000s, such as "...Baby One More Time", "Oops!... I Did It Again", "Toxic", "Everytime", and "Piece of Me". Under the terms of the acquisition, Primary Wave secures the exploitation rights for the works, capturing future streams, royalties from broadcasts, advertisements, and film synchs.

Expanding Music Legacy Portfolio

Founded in 2006, Primary Wave has established itself as an industry powerhouse in music publishing and rights management. Beyond acquiring catalogs, the firm specializes in leveraging artist legacies and commercializing works across media and cinema. The addition of Spears' catalog joins a prestigious roster of cultural touchstones managed by the company, including works by Prince, Whitney Houston, The Notorious B.I.G., and Bob Marley.

Spears' multi-million dollar transaction follows a broader industry trend where top-tier pop stars monetize their life's work for guaranteed massive payouts. A comparable multi-million dollar deal was previously struck by Justin Timberlake, who sold his complete catalog—featuring roughly 200 hits like "SexyBack" and "Mirrors"—to Hipgnosis Songs Capital in a move valued at upwards of $100 million.

Industry Precedents and Catalog Valuations

The pinnacle of catalog valuations was reached in early 2024 through Sony Music's acquisition of a 50 percent stake in Michael Jackson's music catalog. According to industry reports, Sony shelled out roughly $600 million for half of the King of Pop's publishing and recorded music assets, valuing the entire catalog at a staggering $1.2 billion and setting an all-time record for a single artist's estate.
