A Touching Note: Ultra-Orthodox Boy Takes Responsibility for Car Scratch
An Israeli driver discovered a touching note left by an ultra-Orthodox boy who accidentally scratched his car, inspiring a heartwarming viral story about honesty and responsibility.
Finding a scratch on your car is usually the frustrating beginning of a story: you inspect the damage, look around, and try to figure out who is responsible. But when Ido Ben Haim returned to his vehicle, a different kind of surprise awaited him next to the scratch—a note left by a young ultra-Orthodox boy explaining that he had bumped into the car and taken responsibility for the incident.
Ben Haim posted a video about the surprising encounter with the note. He did not hide a detail that might have given the boy an easy way out: due to a parking shortage, he himself had parked his car on the sidewalk where he was not supposed to. The boy could have simply walked away. Instead, he chose to leave a message for the car owner.
What started as a story about car damage turned into a story about the person behind the note. "People sometimes only know how to judge, to say ultra-Orthodox people are like this or like that. Come and see something nice that you don't always see about ultra-Orthodox people," he said in the video.
There was also a heartwarming ending: Ben Haim clarified that he has no intention of asking the boy for money for the repair. From his perspective, the decision to admit what happened was worth more than the cost of the scratch. The metal may be dented, but one small note managed to leave a lasting positive impression.
