7-Year-Old Boy Seriously Injured by Snake Bite in Shomron Settlement
A 7-year-old boy was critically injured after a snake bite in Shomron. Experts warn that October remains an active snake season as reptiles seek winter shelter.

A 7-year-old boy was rushed to Schneider Children's Medical Center in serious and unstable condition on Sunday evening after being bitten by a snake in a community within the Shomron Regional Council. Magen David Adom teams, working in cooperation with an IDF medical force, provided him with emergency medical treatment and evacuated him in an intensive care unit ambulance.
Despite the drop in temperatures, snake catcher Zohar Lahat explains that the snake season is far from over. October remains one of the busiest months for snake captures and activity. Even today, a viper was caught, she notes, as temperatures become more comfortable ahead of winter and snakes begin searching for shelter for the rainy season, alongside ongoing hatching periods.
According to Lahat, various snake species inhabit the Shomron area, meaning the specific type responsible for the bite has not yet been determined. It could be a viper, a Palestine viper, or an Ein Gedi burrowing asp, among other regional varieties.
Lahat warns against attempting to catch or harm a snake, noting that most bites occur due to physical contact. If a snake is spotted near a home, residents should maintain eye contact from a distance and call a professional catcher, while maintaining space in natural environments. Bites can also happen accidentally by stepping on a snake or reaching into hidden spaces.
