The Chairman of the Central Elections Committee, Judge Noam Sohlberg, addressed on Monday the claims raised during a discussion on election preparations regarding appointments within the committee, stating:

'I was a bit surprised by the remarks. We are aware of the troubling publications regarding the appointments and are examining ourselves. All the appointments made recently prove themselves time and time again. As chairman, I feel that I trust them.'

Judge Sohlberg's words were in response to the remarks of the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, MK Boaz Bismuth, who replied during the discussion: 'I am surprised that you are surprised. During the discussion, we will go over a series of appointments, and you will see that the things were not said in vain. Everything is backed up and documented.'

The confrontation occurred during a special session dealing with election preparations. Bismuth criticized the current situation in the Central Elections Committee, claiming that 'the series of puzzling appointments made in the committee raises concern.'

As previously reported, the appointment of the new head of the digital information system, Lilach Weisman, joins a series of controversial appointments within the Central Elections Committee. Critics point out that key positions in the committee are filled by individuals identified with the political left, often without satisfactory explanations provided regarding the selection process.
