Jewish Man Assaulted in Berlin Park Following Antisemitic Encounter
A 60-year-old Jewish man was assaulted in Berlin's Schöneberg district after a stranger asked about his faith. Police hate crime units are investigating.

A 60-year-old man was physically assaulted in the Schöneberg district of Berlin on Saturday evening after confirming he was Jewish to an unidentified individual. German authorities have transferred the investigation to the hate crimes unit, treating the incident as a severe antisemitic attack.
According to local media reports, the victim was sitting on a park bench with an acquaintance at approximately 8:00 PM when a stranger approached and offered them beer. During the ensuing conversation, the suspect asked the man if he was Jewish. When the victim answered affirmatively, a verbal dispute erupted.
Investigators note that the suspect hurled antisemitic slurs, sprayed a beverage on the victim, and threw a full can at him, though it missed. As the 60-year-old attempted to flee, the assailant punched him repeatedly, continuing the beating even after the victim fell to the ground.
The attack ceased only after a passerby alerted the police, prompting the assailant to flee the scene. The victim sustained facial injuries, his glasses were broken, and his coat was torn during the assault.
