Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is launching an offensive against the mayor-elect of New York, Zohran Mamdani, following a series of harsh statements made by the latter against him. In an interview distributed on the Fox News Telegram channel, Netanyahu addressed the public confrontation between the two and claimed that Mamdani's words fuel hatred toward Israelis and Jews.
Netanyahu stated that, in his opinion, Mamdani is "spreading hatred and incitement," and claimed that as a result of his statements, American Jews feel greater fear. According to him, it is no coincidence that after a harsh speech published by Mamdani on the X network, a stabbing incident occurred against a Jew who was leaving a synagogue.
Netanyahu also addressed Mamdani's statements regarding the possibility of arresting him if he arrives in New York, saying that he does not intend to avoid visiting the city or holding talks on the international stage.
"I am not afraid of Mamdani," the Prime Minister said, adding that he intends to arrive in New York and address the UN General Assembly on behalf of Israel.
The confrontation between the two began after Mamdani declared that he would work to bring about the arrest of Netanyahu if he arrives in New York, a statement that sparked criticism in the United States. Legal commentators argued that a mayor has no independent authority to order the arrest of a foreign leader who enjoys legal protections, and that an attempt to act against the position of the federal government could create legal consequences for him.
