IDF Archives Reveal Ben-Gurion's 1956 Warnings on Gaza and Isolation
The IDF Archives have released historical documents from the 1956 Sinai Campaign, revealing David Ben-Gurion's warnings about the heavy security, moral, and international costs of occupying the Gaza Strip.

Marking 70 years since Operation Kadesh, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Archives have released historical documents revealing Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion's warnings regarding the Gaza Strip, the moral and security costs of controlling it, and the dangers of international isolation. The newly unveiled materials include original documents, maps, and thousands of photographs from the 1956 Sinai Campaign.
Speaking with senior military commanders shortly after the campaign, Ben-Gurion addressed the strategic and demographic burdens of the Gaza Strip, which housed hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refugees displaced from areas inside Israel. He cautioned that holding the territory would impose an unsustainable security and moral toll, warning that international isolation could cut off vital arms supplies ahead of future conflicts and leave Israel vulnerable to devastating attacks on its civilian centers, including Tel Aviv and Haifa.
