Ben Gurion Airport Sees 23% Drop in Flight Cancellations During Holidays
Data from FlyBack shows a 23% drop in flight cancellations at Ben Gurion Airport during the busy holiday season, though dozens of delays and cancellations still affected passengers.
During the Jewish holiday season, traditionally the busiest period at Ben Gurion International Airport, flight data analysis by FlyBack reveals a significant drop in flight cancellations, bringing relief to travelers.
According to FlyBack data, only 44 flights out of approximately 3,076 scheduled operations were canceled during the week, marking a 23% decrease compared to 57 cancellations the previous week. However, an additional 27 flights suffered delays of eight hours or more, legally classified as cancellations. The most extreme delay involved a Red Wings flight (WZ4311) from Sochi to Tel Aviv on September 26, which took off with a 17.5-hour delay.
Among airlines, Blue Bird recorded the highest cancellation rate at 3.2% (10 out of 315 flights), followed by Arkia with 2.0% (8 out of 399), and Wizz Air Malta with 1.9% (2 out of 105). Heraklion was the most affected destination with seven cancellations, while September 23 proved to be the busiest day for disruptions, recording 16 canceled flights.
Under Israel's Aviation Services Law, the cumulative potential compensation for a single passenger affected by these cancellations or severe delays reaches up to 119,670 shekels, subject to individual eligibility verification.
