Attacker Shot Dead After Knife Assault Outside Israeli Embassy in Belgrade
An unidentified armed assailant was shot dead after attacking a guard with knives outside the Israeli Embassy in Belgrade overnight. Serbian authorities declared the incident a terrorist attack, raising the national threat level to maximum.

Serbian police announced that an unidentified armed assailant attacked a guard with knives outside the Israeli Embassy in Belgrade overnight, before being shot dead. Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic stated that the incident occurred shortly after midnight local time, prompting authorities to treat the event as a terrorist attack and raise the nation's terror alert to the highest level while increasing security at key sites.
Dacic reported that the unidentified attacker shouted "Allahu Akbar" during the assault and targeted the officer with two knives. The guard neutralized the attacker and sustained minor injuries. This incident marks at least the second time since the outbreak of the Gaza war that a terrorist attack has targeted the Israeli diplomatic mission in the Serbian capital.
A previous attack occurred in June 2024, when a man shot a guard in the neck with a crossbow outside the embassy. Despite suffering life-threatening injuries, that officer managed to retaliate and kill the assailant. Unlike the recent nighttime incident, the 2024 attack took place in broad daylight, echoing previous security challenges faced by the diplomatic compound.
