Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming higher education, raising questions about whether teaching assistants and tutors will eventually be replaced by digital tools. Ahead of the upcoming academic year, Beit Berl College announced the integration of "Angelina," an AI-powered digital teaching assistant designed to work alongside human instructors.

The Role of Angelina in the Classroom

Operating within the Moodle learning environment, Angelina is equipped with course materials, syllabi, lecture presentations, and grading rubrics. Lecturers can brief the system in natural language to specify key topics, difficulty levels, and grading criteria. For students, Angelina functions as an interactive personal tutor, offering exam preparation, answering questions, and providing preliminary feedback on assignments.

"An education system integrated with artificial intelligence is an essential tool for quality teaching," said Prof. Yuli Tamir, president of Beit Berl College. "We do not see AI as a replacement for a lecturer or a teacher, but as a tool that can strengthen instruction, deepen learning, and free up more time for the human connection between students and faculty."

Advanced AI Tools and Future Training

In addition to Angelina, Beit Berl will introduce "Aaron the Owl," an AI agent dedicated to recorded courses that transcribes, translates, and summarizes video lectures while generating quizzes. Another simulation system will allow education students to practice classroom management and teaching skills in a controlled virtual environment before stepping in front of real students.

Roy Shilo, founder of Angelina, emphasized that integrating artificial intelligence requires structured digital workers. "We believe that a true integration of AI in organizations begins with managed digital employees that have a defined role, clear boundaries, and accountability, which the organization knows how to control, measure, and improve over time," he stated.
