A 15-year-old girl in Baltimore managed to escape from a basement where she was held and stabbed after fighting back against her attacker with a fire extinguisher. The incident occurred on October 22 after the victim accepted a paid ride from a man while trying to reach a restaurant. The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Abubakarr Barrie, was arrested two days later and faces multiple charges, including attempted murder and kidnapping.

According to charging documents, the teenager noticed the driver was heading in the opposite direction from her destination and confronted him. Investigators state that Barrie became violent, restrained her, and drove her to a house on Garrison Boulevard. Inside the residence, he allegedly forced her into a small basement room and stabbed her.

The victim fought back, scratched her assailant, and ultimately grabbed a fire extinguisher to strike him. She escaped the house injured and sought help from local residents, one of whom allowed her to contact her mother and emergency services. Hospital examinations revealed she suffered approximately five stab wounds and a punctured lung.

Law enforcement tracked Barrie using details from his Cash App account, the vehicle description provided by the victim, and her mobile phone, which was recovered at the scene. He was later identified by the victim in a photographic lineup.

The Department of Homeland Security stated that Barrie is a citizen of Sierra Leone who entered the United States unlawfully through Arizona in December 2023 and was released under the Biden administration. According to officials, he was arrested again in New York in July 2026 on suspicion of possessing a fraudulent document, but was released despite an immigration detainer request. Barrie remains detained without bond, and his defense attorney stated in court that he maintains his innocence. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 25.
