Avichai Mandelblit Appointed Dean of Law at Ramat Gan Academic College
The former Attorney General, who previously served as Cabinet Secretary and Military Advocate General, is opening a new chapter in his career. In his new role, he will lead the Faculty of Law at the Ramat Gan Academic College.
Advocate Prof. Avichai Mandelblit, former Attorney General and one of the senior figures in Israel's legal system, was appointed this week as Dean of the Faculty of Law at the Ramat Gan Academic College. In his new role, he will be responsible for leading the faculty in the fields of teaching and research, developing and enriching study programs, and strengthening the connection between academia, the legal world, and public service.
Mandelblit, 61, brings with him professional and academic experience accumulated over 40 years of activity in the public, security, and legal sectors. He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Tel Aviv University, and a Master's degree and a Doctorate from Bar-Ilan University, with his doctoral thesis focusing on the subject of "Lawfare and the State of Israel – Past Experience and a Look to the Future."
He began his professional career in the Military Advocate General's Corps, where he served for 26 years and advanced to the position of Military Advocate General with the rank of Aluf (Major General). During his tenure, he led the IDF's legal system during complex security periods, including the Second Lebanon War, Operation Cast Lead, and the Mavi Marmara events, while accompanying legal proceedings before investigative committees and international legal bodies.
After his retirement from the IDF in 2011, he joined the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) as a senior researcher. In 2013, he was appointed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as Cabinet Secretary, and in 2016 he took office as Attorney General, a position he held until 2022.
During his tenure as Attorney General, he dealt with constitutional, security, and administrative issues, including the legal response to the COVID-19 crisis. One of the prominent decisions he made was the filing of indictments against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in cases 1000, 2000, and 4000. At the same time, he also worked on formulating Netanyahu's conflict of interest agreement. After completing his term, he returned to the academic world and joined the faculty of the Bar-Ilan University Faculty of Law.
Upon entering his new role, Mandelblit said:
