The current season of the reality show Survivor on Reshet 13 is generating immense drama both on the island and in the real world. At the center of the controversy is media figure and former Ichilov Hospital spokesperson Avi Shushan, who has become one of the most polarizing figures in Israeli reality television history. His close alliance with Lior Dayan, forged on the beach, has completely collapsed following a bitter falling-out.

The rift was triggered by an interview Dayan gave to the television program HaTinor, where he strongly criticized Shushan's behavior toward fellow tribunes Lir Oz and Shimon Vaknin in a recent episode. Dayan stated that he was deeply shocked by Shushan's actions and revealed that he had confronted him on the island, telling him he had crossed a red line and demanding an immediate apology. In response, Shushan cut off all communication with Dayan, effectively ending a friendship that had persisted after their return to Israel.

Political Unity Overshadowed by Reality TV

Earlier, during the Knesset election day when their bond was strong, the two shared a joint Instagram photo calling for national unity, stating that politics should never divide the public. Ironically, what politics failed to break was shattered by a single reality television episode. The on-screen explosion occurred within the Lupa tribe following an immunity challenge loss. Shushan attempted to dictate moves aggressively, clashing with teammates and lashing out at Shimon Vaknin over religious observance and hurling a severe insult at 24-year-old Lir Oz.

Facing widespread backlash and pressure from his tribe, Shushan eventually issued an on-camera apology, attributing his outbursts to extreme hunger and emotional distress, though viewers remained unforgiving. This incident compounded a series of controversial remarks he made earlier in the season, including contentious comments regarding the October 7 disaster and freed hostage Yocheved Lifshitz.

Real-World Fallout and Security Measures

The real-world consequences have been severe, with Shushan receiving a torrent of online abuse and death threats directed at him and his children. The situation escalated to the point where Shushan requested personal security from Reshet 13 management. He also accuses the network of character assassination through malicious editing and is currently boycotting all promotional programming for the show.

Simultaneously, Shushan faces professional repercussions in Israeli media, where he serves as a regular panelist on the flagship show The Patriots. Network executives decided to bench him until the conclusion of the reality season due to his participation on a rival channel. Additionally, media personality Corin Gideon publicly renewed her ongoing feud with Shushan, launching a sharp critique against his conduct.
