Critical warning for vacationers in Greece: "Do not approach these places on Sunday, 9.8"
For the second consecutive year, pro-Palestinian organizations are declaring a "day of rage" in mid-August, while thousands of Israelis are vacationing in Greece. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued safety guidelines for travelers.
Greece, a preferred vacation destination for Israelis, is set to become a scene of intense confrontation this coming Sunday, 9.8, as local left-wing organizations and pro-Palestinian movements organize a "day of rage" at the country's most popular tourist sites. The organizers' goal is to disrupt the summer vacation of Israelis and harm their daily routine.
The day of rage will include about 40 protest hubs in major cities and popular islands, including Athens, Thessaloniki, Crete, and Mykonos, where protesters are calling for the expulsion of Israeli tourists.
On the same date a year ago, a similar day took place in Greece when thousands of anti-Israel demonstrators, mainly in the capital Athens, took to the streets with the goal to "protest, demonstrate, and meet Israeli tourists face-to-face" against the backdrop of the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip.
Ahead of these demonstrations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a warning to Israelis staying in Greece and refreshed the safety guidelines:
"One should stay away from protest hubs and unplanned gatherings, avoid public arguments and expressing political views in public spaces, and conceal visible identification markers (such as flags, shirts with Hebrew writing, or IDF symbols). Exercise vigilance in crowded areas, especially at sports events, tourist sites, and on public transport. Maintain contact with family members and update them on your location."
