With a backpack full of flammable material: a man set himself on fire in front of Google offices

A 63-year-old man set himself on fire on Friday in the lobby of the building where Google's offices are located in the Manhattan borough of New York. Security camera footage in the area shows him engulfed in flames that erupted from the backpack he was carrying. It is estimated that the bag contained some kind of flammable liquid.

The incident occurred at three in the afternoon on Hudson Street, according to a report by the New York Police Department. The police have opened an investigation into the scene and the bag that was left behind. At this stage, no arrests have been made, and there are no findings indicating a connection between the man and Google.

A large number of people contacted the police department to report the incident. Rescue teams that arrived at the scene managed to extinguish the fire and transport the man in stable condition to Weill Cornell Hospital. The hospital stated that he is suffering from severe burns to his head, upper body, and arms.

Fortunately, the internal headquarters of the New York Police Department is also located in the same building, so the immediate response was what saved the man's life. At this stage, it is unclear what materials he used to carry out the act, or the reasons behind it.

"We are aware of an incident that occurred in the lobby of the building that we share with other tenants. While the person involved in the incident sought to enter the premises of another tenant in the building, we continue to remain in close contact with the authorities."
