With Ukrainian money: Spyker builds its comeback car
Dutch car manufacturer Spyker has unveiled the C8 Preliator XXV, a limited-edition supercar with only 25 units to be produced. The company is now under the control of Ukrainian businessman Vladimir Nosov.
After a prolonged absence from the global automotive market, the Dutch car manufacturer Spyker presented this week the C8 Preliator XXV, a supercar of which only 25 units will be produced. Spyker itself was founded in 1999 as a tribute to another car manufacturer with the same name that was established in 1880. Spyker specialized in the production of supercars inspired by aircraft, but in 2010 it announced the acquisition of the Swedish car manufacturer Saab for 394 million dollars. Spyker failed to revive Saab, and after four years, Spyker announced bankruptcy. Last year, Victor Muller, one of the company's founders, announced the acquisition of the rights to the Spyker name. About two months ago, Ukrainian businessman Vladimir Nosov announced the acquisition of control over Spyker.
Now, Spyker is announcing the opening of orders for the "comeback car," the C8 Preliator XXV, whose official price has not yet been announced. According to Spyker, the C8 Preliator XXV, which will be hand-built, is equipped with a four-liter engine with two turbochargers, producing 789 horsepower. The engine itself comes from Audi. The transmission is manual and the top speed is 350 kilometers per hour. According to Spyker, the C8 Preliator XXV is capable of accelerating to 100 kilometers per hour in 2.9 seconds.
As is customary at Spyker, which claims that each car requires 2,100 hours of assembly and therefore the pre-order process is expected to take over a year, the cabin is designed to resemble the cockpit of a 1930s aircraft, meaning it is (almost) impossible to find screens in the Spyker's cabin, except for a single information display. Instead of screens, the Spyker's cabin includes exposed metal, retro-style gauges, and an abundance of exposed screws with an aluminum finish. On the outside, the C8 Preliator XXV includes quite a few motifs that Spyker defines as "taken from the aviation world," from a pair of taillights designed to resemble the afterburners of a fighter jet to special air vents in the rear fenders designed to resemble the air intakes of fighter jets.
