Attack on Anne Hathaway: "Not sexy, and she is pregnant"
After Tom Cruise announced that Anne Hathaway would star alongside him in the sequel to "Days of Thunder," Randy Quaid, who starred in the original film, criticized the casting. He labeled Hathaway a "leftist, WOKE" and claimed her selection was a "horrible choice" for the film's audience.
There is no doubt that this is Anne Hathaway's year — she is simply everywhere: "The Devil Wears Prada 2," "Mother Mary," "The Odyssey," and "End of Oak Street," with "Illusion" expected later this year. After finishing the military drama "Alone at Dawn," she is already working on the third "Princess Diaries" film, and now the sequel to "Days of Thunder" has been added to the list. It seems not everyone is pleased.
According to a report by Variety, Hathaway will star alongside Tom Cruise in the sequel to the iconic 1990 racing film, set to hit theaters on June 2, 2028 — nearly 40 years after the original. The film will be directed by Jonathan Levine, and Cruise will return as race car driver Cole Trickle. Hathaway is expected to play a racing team owner and engineer. However, this casting did not sit well with one of the original stars: Randy Quaid, who played Tim Daland.
Quaid spoke out against the casting and called for the return of Nicole Kidman, who played Dr. Claire Lewicki in the first film.
"We need Nicole back," he wrote on Saturday on X. "Don't be a pussy, Tom Cruise. You need the original girl. It's not personal; it's filmmaking. Anne isn't sexy, because if you haven't noticed, she's pregnant."
In a follow-up post, Quaid sharpened his tone, calling Hathaway a "leftist, WOKE" and claiming it was a horrible choice for the NASCAR audience of "Days of Thunder," which he identifies with MAGA. "The sexy older chick that Tom needs in this film needs to be Nicole. That's the casting that would sell the idea. It's a strange thing, as if they want it to come out and fail."
Reactions to Quaid's comments were mixed. While some supported him, many rushed to defend Hathaway. "Pregnant or not — Anne is insanely sexy," one user wrote, while others pointed out that Hathaway is not replacing Kidman but playing a new character. "You were left out so you're lashing out; your 15 minutes are up and you need to spread hate to be relevant," others retorted.
"Days of Thunder," directed by Tony Scott, tells the story of Cole Trickle, an ambitious race car driver who, after an accident, seeks help from neurologist Dr. Claire Lewicki to overcome his fear and return to competition. The film was produced on a budget of 60 million dollars and grossed about 157.9 million dollars worldwide.
