Fourth Suspect Arrested in Atlit Naval Base Rifle Theft Investigation
Police arrested a Netanya resident suspected of involvement in the theft of assault rifles from the Shayetet 13 naval commando base in Atlit, bringing the total number of suspects in custody to four.
The Central Unit of the Coastal District arrested 27-year-old Netanya resident Soraple Getehon on suspicion of involvement in the theft of assault rifles from the Shayetet 13 naval commando base in Atlit. The arrest was made on the eve of Rosh Hashanah, bringing the total number of suspects in custody to four.
Getehon is suspected of weapons theft, unauthorized weapons possession, conducting transactions with stolen weapons, and conspiracy to commit a crime. He joins three other suspects already in custody: Amit Moyal, 27, of Eilat; Stav Avraham Tamam, 24, of Netanya; and Sergeant Raphael Shemesh, an active-duty soldier whose detention is being handled by the military court in cooperation with the Military Police Criminal Investigation Division.
During a hearing at the Haifa Magistrate's Court, police representative Alex Schatzman stated that Getehon's role in the affair is central. Judge Rania Sarouji reviewed the evidence and extended his detention, noting reasonable suspicion and grounds for arrest. The investigation continues as authorities search for the missing M4 assault rifles stolen from the base.
