A married couple from Ashdod was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of defrauding several pharmaceutical companies of hundreds of thousands of shekels by ordering medical aesthetics products, including Botox and hyaluronic acid, without paying for them. According to police, the suspects allegedly presented a false front of legitimate business activity, placed large orders for medical supplies, and paid for them using uncovered checks. The arrest followed a covert joint investigation by the Southern District Fraud Unit of the Israel Police and the Enforcement and Inspection Division of the Ministry of Health.

The Fraudulent Scheme

Investigators suspect that the female suspect approached a physician, claiming to operate several medical aesthetics clinics in southern Israel, and had him sign a document indicating an intent for professional collaboration. She allegedly used this document to convince pharmaceutical companies that she managed an active medical aesthetics business. Police believe this method allowed her to order large quantities of products and unusual sums without the companies realizing the operation was fictitious.

According to the findings, the couple utilized a method designed to complicate the tracking of deliveries. Products were ordered through logistics companies, but when couriers arrived at the provided address, they were redirected to another location. There, the female suspect's partner allegedly awaited the shipments, collected the packages, and handed over checks that investigators believe lacked financial backing. Police estimate the couple acquired products worth hundreds of thousands of shekels through this scheme.

Raid and Seizure

The investigation was launched following a report from a Ministry of Health representative, which raised suspicions among law enforcement authorities. Police subsequently gathered complaints from representatives of the affected pharmaceutical companies. Over the past week, the investigation was conducted covertly, gathering evidence and examining the suspects' modus operandi. On Sunday, the investigation went public as fraud unit officers raided the couple's home in Ashdod to seize products, documents, and additional evidence.

During the search, officers confiscated numerous boxes containing syringes with aesthetic treatment substances, including Botox and hyaluronic acid. Alongside the products, authorities discovered invoices, delivery notes, empty packaging, and signs allegedly used to create the illusion of an active clinic. Investigators also seized the suspects' mobile phones, which were reportedly used to place orders and coordinate deliveries.

Following the search, the couple was arrested and transferred for interrogation at the Southern District Fraud Unit. Police are currently examining the scope of the transactions, the number of pharmaceutical companies allegedly harmed, and the ultimate use of the acquired products. Authorities emphasize that these are preliminary suspicions and the investigation, conducted in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, is ongoing.
