The champions kicked off the 2026/27 English league season with a convincing victory. Kai Havertz scored first in the 15th minute, Bukayo Saka doubled (23), and Martin Odegaard completed the celebration (49).
Arsenal opened the 2026/27 Premier League season this evening, Friday, with a 3-0 home win over Coventry. In a match where Mikel Arteta's Gunners dominated from the first moment, they made it clear that they are entering the new season with the goal of retaining their crown.
Arsenal took the lead in the 15th minute. A ball interception on the left flank ended with a cross from Riccardo Calafiori, and Kai Havertz beat the Coventry defense to score the champion's first goal of the season with a touch into the far corner. Only eight minutes later, the Gunners doubled their lead: Declan Rice intercepted a ball in the center of the pitch, Christos Tzolis delivered a cross, and Coventry goalkeeper Karl Rushworth parried it poorly, allowing Bukayo Saka to control the rebound and kick it home.
Arsenal continued to dominate after the break, and in the 49th minute, they completed the third goal. Ben White penetrated the box from the right and sent a cross towards Martin Odegaard. The Norwegian captain struck, the ball hit Rushworth, and eventually found the net. 0:3.
