American center Armando Bacot, who played last season for Fenerbahçe, has agreed to terms with Maccabi Tel Aviv. The 26-year-old Bacot, who stands 2.08 meters tall, did not impress last year while playing an average of 10 minutes in 26 EuroLeague games, scoring only 2.4 points alongside 1.8 rebounds.
Armando Linwood Bacot Jr. was considered a big name in high school basketball early in his career, which led him to play five years at the University of North Carolina, a school with a glorious tradition that nurtured past stars like Michael Jordan and Vince Carter. Bacot was one of the standout players in college and continued from there to the Memphis Hustle of the G League, the affiliate team of the Memphis Grizzlies. There, he impressed with 16.8 points per game and 9.5 rebounds, but last summer he did not secure an NBA contract and signed last September with Fenerbahçe.
He is expected to be the third big man in the rotation after Roman Sorkin and the senior foreign player for the frontcourt positions who is close to signing, the German Daniel Theis (34, 2.06m). Theis was already on the verge of moving to the French club ASVEL, and the club's owner, Tony Parker, confirmed at the end of June that the parties were close to an agreement. However, in recent weeks, the team has fallen into a significant financial crisis, which has completely changed the situation.
