Crime Wave Kills One and Wounds Several in Arab Sector Shootings
A wave of violent crime over the weekend left one man dead in Tel Sheva and multiple others wounded in shootings and stabbings across Ar'ara, Rahat, and Baqa al-Gharbiya. Abraham Initiatives reported 192 crime-related deaths in the Arab sector so far in 2026.

A violent crime wave continued to grip the Arab sector over the weekend, resulting in multiple shootings, stabbings, and homicides across several towns and cities, according to local police and emergency services.
In the southern town of Tel Sheva, a man identified as Hasan Abu Rqeik was fatally shot overnight between Friday and Saturday. Police reported that he was rushed to Soroka Medical Center, where medical staff pronounced him dead. Officers from the HaArayot police station launched an investigation, securing the crime scene and conducting widespread searches for suspects. Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from an ongoing criminal dispute between families.
Following the homicide, the anti-violence organization Abraham Initiatives released updated statistics showing that 192 Arabs have lost their lives in crime-related incidents since the beginning of 2026. The toll includes 183 citizens and 9 residents, among them 163 shooting victims, 9 stabbing victims, and 13 women or girls. Despite the grim figures, the total represents an 8 percent decrease compared to the 209 fatalities recorded during the same period last year.
In a separate incident on Saturday morning, a man in his 30s was seriously wounded in a shooting in Ar'ara. MDA paramedics administered emergency medical treatment at the scene before evacuating him to Hillel Yaffe Medical Center. Police from the Iron station opened an investigation into the shooting, citing a suspected criminal motive.
Earlier Saturday, a 19-year-old youth was brought to the MDA station in Rahat in serious condition after suffering stab wounds in a violent altercation. Paramedics transported him to Soroka Medical Center. Hours prior, a 23-year-old man was moderately wounded in a violent incident in Baqa al-Gharbiya and taken to Hillel Yaffe Medical Center.
Violence also flared earlier in the week in Israel's northern and coastal regions. On Friday, 45-year-old Tarek Bassol was shot and killed in the Galilee town of Reina, near Nazareth. A 37-year-old woman was moderately wounded in the same shooting, while another individual sustained minor injuries. Police launched a manhunt and later discovered a burning vehicle believed to have been used by the suspects.
Meanwhile, police in Acre arrested a Palestinian resident of Nablus following the discovery of a Palestinian woman's body inside an apartment on HaHagana Street. Forensic investigators and police from the Asher district opened a murder investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the death.
